Clinical History

An elderly man with metastatic prostate cancer presented with a few days of severe hip pain on walking. An x-ray was performed and is shown below. Note the sclerotic metastatic deposit in the left proximal shaft of the femur.

A decision was made not to operate. Unfortunately the man suffered a pathological fracture 3 months later whilst turning in bed.
