Case History

A 77 year old woman with an unresected primary cancer of her transverse colon and liver metastases gradually declines in terms of energy levels and appetite over a one month period. A re-staging CT scan shows progression of her liver metastases and a slight reduction in her size of her primary tumour, measuring 54mm in length and extending towards the stomach. Given her progression of disease, her chemotherapy is stopped with a plan for best supportive care. She continues to gradually decline over the following month until one evening she vomits a large amount of coffee-ground appearing vomitus.
