Galatians 1:23

Greek	μόνον δὲplugin-autotooltip__default plugin-autotooltip_bigδέ greek δέ is a conjunction that can mean “but” or “and” or “also” or “moreover”. It is a word that is used very frequently in the New Testament, and is often unexpressed and not translated in English. ἀκούοντες ἦσανplugin-autotooltip__default plugin-autotooltip_bigεἰμί greek εἰμί is the first person singular verb for “to be” (εἶναι [the infinitive form] = “to be”). It an irregular verb, and, like English, changes significantly between person and tense. ESV	They only were hearing it said, “He who used to persecute us is now preaching the faith he once tried to destroy.”
NIV	They only heard the report: “The man who formerly persecuted us is now preaching the faith he once tried to destroy.”
NLT	All they knew was that people were saying, “The one who used to persecute us is now preaching the very faith he tried to destroy!”
