The Hebrew אֵת word does not have a corresponding word in English. In Hebrew, it is a marker of the accusative, i.e. the word following it is the object of the sentence. It only ever occurs in conjunction with nouns associated with the definite article הַ.Genesis 1:1
הָאֱוִ֨יל בַּֽמַּכְתֵּ֡שׁ בְּת֣וֹךְ הָ֭רִיפוֹת בַּֽעֱלִ֑י לֹא תָס֥וּר מֵ֝עָלָ֗יו אִוַּלְתּֽוֹ
ESV
Crush a fool in a mortar with a pestle along with crushed grain, yet his folly will not depart from him.
NIV
Though you grind a fool in a mortar, grinding him like grain with a pestle, you will not remove his folly from him.
