James 2:17

IT is most frequently translated as “and” ἡplugin-autotooltip__default plugin-autotooltip_bigὁ greek The definite article πίστις, ἐὰν μὴ ἔχῃ ἔργα, νεκρά ἐστινplugin-autotooltip__default plugin-autotooltip_bigεἰμί greek εἰμί is the first person singular verb for “to be” (εἶναι [the infinitive form] = “to be”). It an irregular verb, and, like English, changes significantly between person and tense. For example εἰμί is the word for am and ἦν is the word for was, e.g. καθ’ ἑαυτήν.
ESV	So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
NIV	In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.
NLT	So you see, faith by itself isn't enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless.
KJV	Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
