hebrew

The Hebrew אֵת word does not have a corresponding word in English. In Hebrew, it is a marker of the accusative, i.e. the word following it is the object of the sentence.

For example, in Genesis 1:1 the word is preceded by בָּרָ֣א אֱלֹהִ֑ים (
שֶׁ֤בֶר בַּת עַמִּי֙ עַל נְקַלָּ֔ה לֵאמֹ֖ר שָׁל֣וֹם שָׁל֑וֹם וְאֵ֖ין שָׁלֽוֹם
ESV
They have healed the wound of my people lightly, saying, 'Peace, peace,' when there is no peace.
NIV
They dress the wound of my people as though it were not serious. “Peace, peace,” they say, when there is no peace.
NLT
They offer superficial treatments for my people's mortal wound. They give assurances of peace when there is no peace.
LXX
KJV
For they have healed the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace.
