Joshua 4:21

Hebrew	וַיֹּ֛אמֶר אֶל בְּנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל לֵאמֹ֑ר אֲשֶׁר֩ יִשְׁאָל֨וּן בְּנֵיכֶ֤ם מָחָר֙ אֶתplugin-autotooltip__default plugin-autotooltip_bigאֵת hebrew The Hebrew אֵת word does not have a corresponding word in English. In Hebrew, it is a marker of the accusative, i.e. the word following it is the object of the sentence. For example, in Genesis 1:1 the word is preceded by בָּרָ֣א אֱלֹהִ֑ים ( אֲבוֹתָ֣ם לֵאמֹ֔ר מָ֖ה הָאֲבָנִ֥ים הָאֵֽלֶּה
ESV	And he said to the people of Israel, “When your children ask their fathers in times to come, 'What do these stones mean?'
NIV	He said to the Israelites, “In the future when your descendants ask their fathers, 'What do these stones mean?'
NLT	Then Joshua said to the Israelites, “In the future your children will ask, 'What do these stones mean?'
LXX	λέγων ὅταν ἐρωτῶσιν ὑμᾶς οἱplugin-autotooltip__default plugin-autotooltip_bigὁ greek The definite article υἱοὶ ὑμῶν λέγοντες τί εἰσινplugin-autotooltip__default plugin-autotooltip_bigεἰμί greek εἰμί is the first person singular verb for “to be” (εἶναι [the infinitive form] = “to be”). It an irregular verb, and, like English, changes significantly between person and tense.
