Proverbs 26:19

In Hebrew, it is a marker of the accusative, i.e. the word following it is the object of the sentence. For example, in Genesis 1:1 the word is preceded by בָּרָ֣א אֱלֹהִ֑ים ( רֵעֵ֑הוּ וְ֝אָמַ֗ר הֲֽלֹא מְשַׂחֵ֥ק אָֽנִי
ESV	is the man who deceives his neighbor and says, “I am only joking!”
NIV	is a man who deceives his neighbor and says, “I was only joking!”
NLT	is someone who lies to a friend and then says, “I was only joking.”
