Romans 8:24

Greek	τῇplugin-autotooltip__default plugin-autotooltip_bigὁ greek The definite article γὰρ ἐλπίδι ἐσώθημεν· ἐλπὶς δὲplugin-autotooltip__default plugin-autotooltip_bigδέ greek δέ is a conjunction that can mean “but” or “and” or “also” or “moreover”. It is a word that is used very frequently in the New Testament, and is often unexpressed and not translated in English. βλεπομένη οὐκ ἔστινplugin-autotooltip__default plugin-autotooltip_bigεἰμί greek εἰμί is the first person singular verb for “to be” (εἶναι [the infinitive form] = “to be”). It an irregular verb, and, like English, changes significantly between person and tense. ESV	For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees?
NIV	For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what he already has?
NLT	We were given this hope when we were saved. (If we already have something, we don't need to hope for it.
KJV	For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?
