Lamentations 4:17

ESV	Our eyes failed, ever watching vainly for help; in our watching we watched for a nation which could not save.
NIV	Moreover, our eyes failed, looking in vain for help; from our towers we watched for a nation that could not save us.
NLT	We looked in vain for our allies to come and save us, but we were looking to nations that could not help us.
LXX	ἔτι ὄντωνplugin-autotooltip__default plugin-autotooltip_bigεἰμί greek εἰμί is the first person singular verb for “to be” (εἶναι [the infinitive form] = “to be”). It an irregular verb, and, like English, changes significantly between person and tense.
